Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey is a remarkable Kentucky spirit that honors the legacy of Reverend Elijah Craig, the pioneer widely known as the "Father of Bourbon." Produced by the esteemed Heaven Hill Distillery, this expression utilizes a traditional mashbill featuring a modest 51% rye, supported by a healthy dose of corn and malted barley. This unique grain ratio, combined with careful aging in Level 3 charred oak barrels, creates a beautifully balanced whiskey. It seamlessly harmonizes the fiery, peppery spice of the rye grain with the smooth, sweet, and comforting caramel notes of corn, resulting in a robust yet highly approachable rye whiskey.
Food Pairing: This robust and spicy rye is a fantastic match for savory, slow-cooked meats like smoked beef brisket, pulled pork, or spicy grilled sausages. For a sweeter contrast, serve it alongside classic apple pie, dark chocolate desserts, or a sharp, aged cheddar cheese.
TASTING NOTES - A rich, deep amber liquid with a medium-to-full-bodied texture that coats the glass, showcasing a perfect harmony of sweet barrel notes and sharp rye spice.
NOSE - Engaging aromas of dark chocolate, toasted oak, and baking spices mingle with a distinct undertone of sweet vanilla, dark caramel, and a subtle hint of fresh orchard apples.
Palate - Rich, smooth, and warming. It opens with sweet honey, vanilla cream, and butterscotch, quickly transitioning into a vibrant wave of black pepper, cinnamon, clove, and classic rye baking spices.
FINISH - Crisp, long, and pleasantly warming, leaving a lingering trail of toasted oak, subtle sweetness, and a pleasant, peppery rye prickle.
SERVE - Excellent enjoyed neat or over a single large ice cube, but truly shines as a sturdy, spicy foundation in classic whiskey cocktails like a Manhattan, Boulevardier, or Sazerac.
